Lets Talk About Jazz Real Quick
ehhhemmm, so I’m gonna keep this brief because I doubt yall even care but you know I got an old soul so here we are lmao
I wanted to dedicate a post to some of my favorite things *no pun intended, iykyk* and jazz is one of them. My appreciation didn’t come until the aux situation in my car broke and all I was left with was either the radio or cassette tapes. My grandpa and my dad listen to jazz, especially smooth jazz. My grandpa used to drive a burgundy Lincoln town car and you already know what he had playing. My daddy one of them old black dudes that listen to Jaheim and smooth jazz stations on direct tv; blast it on saturday mornings while handling business around the house before gettin ready to step out later lol. Just a lil history on how I was introduced. Now look, I still call my daddy when my engine light come on or I need an oil change and he always give me my car back with a wash, a lil gas and the radio on 88.1 . It’s always around me especially cause its the only music I listen to when i’m driving. Anyway, I’ve fallen in love with the melodies and the sound of instruments, it sort of requires a small amount of mindfulness like catching notes, different rhythms and realizing the improvising thats happening to create music in real time. The synergy, It’s so mesmerizing to me. It’s like the purest form of music, it makes me feel good.
I love to listen to jazz while I’m cooking, I put it on as background music, when i’m hosting anything at my house, shit – in the car. Just whenever.
Some of my favorite musicians include: Ahmad James, Herbie Hancock, badbadnotgood, Kokoroko, Shabaka and the ancestors, Alice Coltrane, Dorothy Ashby – she be killing the harp, Ebo Taylor!! Hiroshima – My favorite japanese band, John Coltrane – basically all the greats.
